DISTEC: Distribution List about Disabilities and Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology is defined as any item, device, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off-the-shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities (Technology-Related Assistance Act for Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1988, U.S.A.).

An Assistive Technology device may be a "high-tech" device such as a computer or an augmentative communication device, or it may be "low-tech," such as eyeglasses, a tape recorder, or a cushion for better positioning. It can also include training for parents, teachers, and related service staff.

DISTEC aims to be an open forum where researchers, designers and users of AT might exchange ideas, queries and initiatives, and expose and disseminate innovative results. DISTEC will be a discussion forum in Spanish.
